Moringga Oleifera




Moringa oleifera is a fast-growing, drought resistant tree of the family Moringaceae, native to the Indian subcontinent.Common names include moringa,drumstick tree(from the long, slender, triangular seed-pods), horseradish tree (from the taste of the roots, which resembles horseradish), and ben oil tree or benzolive tree.


  1. Description


Moringa plants have a height of 7-11 meters, woody trunk (lignosus), upright, dirty white, thin skin, rough surface;  Simpodial branching, the direction of the branches upright or oblique, tends to grow straight and elongated. [4]  Moringa leaves have the characteristics of: compound, long-stemmed, alternately arranged, give birth to odd leaves (imparipinnatus), light green leaves when young. [5]  The fruit is triangular in shape, 20 - 60 cm long;  Young green fruit - after being dark brown, round seed shape - blackish brown, bearing fruit after 12-18 months of age.  Taproot, white in color, enlarged like a turnip.


Researchers from Anna Technology University, Tamilnadu, India, C Senthil Kumar, proved that Moringa leaves are indeed effective as a hepatoprotector or liver protector.  According to a doctor and herbalist in Yogyakarta, Dr. Sidi Aritjahja, Moringa contains very high antioxidants and is very good for diseases related to digestive problems, such as intestinal wounds and stomach ulcers.  "Any part that is used is safe as long as you pay attention to the method," said the alumnus of Gadjah Mada University.  Drink moringa leaf stew while warm water.  Therefore, the antioxidant effect is still strong in warm conditions.


  1. The Efficacy of Moringa leaves


Moringa leaves contain:

 • 7 x vitamin C in oranges

 • 4 x calcium in milk

 • 4 x vitamin A in carrots

 • 2 x protein in milk

 • 3 x potassium in bananas


From the results of the analysis of nutritional content, it can be seen that Moringa leaves have excellent potential to complement the nutritional needs of the body.  By consuming Moringa leaves, the nutritional balance in the body will be fulfilled so that people who consume Moringa leaves will be helped to increase their energy and endurance.


  1. Side Effect


Besides having benefits, moringa also has several side effects to watch out for.  Here are some of them:


 • Lower blood pressure

 • Slows down the heart rate

 • Hypoglycemia or low blood sugar

 • Diarrhea

 • Liver and kidney damage

 • Danger for the womb

 • Allergic reaction

 


The above side effects are very rare.  Side effects can occur because you do have allergies or other conditions that are not recommended for consuming this plant.  Basically, consumption of Moringa leaves is relatively safe.  However, you should not eat other parts such as flowers, tree bark, and roots. [7]
