explanation and benefits of the betel leaf plant

Betel is a native Indonesian plant that grows vines or leans on other tree trunks. As a culture, the leaves and fruit are usually chewed together with gambier, areca nut, tobacco and lime. However betel chewing has served with oral cancer and squamous cell carcinoma orders which are malignant. Also the lime makes the gums shrink (periodentitis) which can make teeth fall out, even though the betel leaf contains antiseptic to prevent cavities.

However, betel plants are often found throughout Indonesia, used or only as an ornamental plant.

Stem, leaf, and flower / fruit characteristics
This vine can reach up to 15 m tall. The betel stem is greenish brown, round, segmented and is where the roots come out. The single leaf is heart-shaped, pointed at the tip, grows alternately, has a stem, and gives off a pleasant smell when squeezed. It is about 5 - 8 cm long and 2 - 5 cm wide. The flowers are compound in the form of grains and there are ± 1 mm of protective leaves that are round. The male ear is about 1.5 - 3 cm long and there are two short stamens in the female group about 1.5 - 6 cm in length where there are three to five white and yellowish green pistils. The fruit is round fruit buni which is greyish green. Root root, round and yellowish brown.

Betel is effective in eliminating body odor caused by bacteria and fungi. Betel leaf is also resistant to bleeding, heals wounds on the skin, and digestive tract disorders. In addition, it is also wrinkled, expels phlegm, shed saliva, hemostatic, and prohibits bleeding. Usually for nasal bleeding, 2 fresh Piper betle leaves are used, rolled up and then inserted into the nostrils. In addition, the active ingredients of phenol and kavikol forest betel leaf can also be used as vegetable pesticides to control sucking pests.
