AQUAPONIC IN NARROW FIELD "BUDIKDAMBER" (CULTIVATION OF FISH IN SOURCES)
AQUAPONIC IN NARROW FIELD "BUDIKDAMBER" (CULTIVATION OF FISH IN SOURCES)
Along with the development of development, land for fish farming or gardening is increasingly limited, while the need for vegetable and animal protein continues to increase. Cultivating Fish in Buckets (Budikdamber) is a potential solution for aquaculture and agriculture on narrow land with more efficient water use, easy for the community to do in their respective homes with relatively small capital, and finally able to meet the nutritional needs of the community. Besides that, like "One rowing, two three islands exceeded", Budikdamber is also a complete way to cultivate fish and grow vegetables in the same medium, namely buckets.
The working system of Budikdamber is to cultivate fish and vegetables in one bucket which is an aquaponic system (fish and vegetable polyculture). However, the difference is that Budikdamber is not as complicated as aquaponics which requires pumps and filters which ultimately require electricity, large land, expensive, and complicated. Budikdamber actually has advantages such as saving water, zero waste, easy maintenance, and no chemicals.
What needs to be considered in the Budikdamber technique?
TYPES OF FISH
Not all fish can be cultivated with this Budikdamber technique. Only fish with low oxygen resistance are suitable for cultivation, such as catfish, catfish, betok, cork, and carp.
TYPES OF PLANTS
types of plants that can be planted depend on the type of media used. For vegetables such as kale, genjer, and Brazilian spinach can be cultivated using charcoal media. Meanwhile, the media in the form of AKT (charcoal, cloth, and soil) can be used for all types of vegetables.
However, the most frequent and easy way to cultivate is a combination of raising catfish and growing vegetables in the form of kale.
So, how do you cultivate fish and grow vegetables in buckets using the Budikdamber technique?
EQUIPMENT AND MATERIALS FOR MAKING BUDIKDAMBER
equipment and materials used to make Budikdamber are not difficult, namely:
- 80 liter bucket
- Coconut shell charcoal
- Plastic glass
- Catfish seeds
- Pliers
- Wire
- kangkung seeds
- Solder
HOW TO MAKE BUDIKDAMBER
A. Preparation of Vegetable Planting Media
- Punch 10 plastic cups with solder.
- Cut the kale, leaving the bottom part.
- Put the kale in the glass.
- Fill a glass with coconut shell charcoal between 50 and 80 percent the size of the glass.
- Cut the wire approximately 12 cm and make a hook model that can be used as a glass handle in a bucket.
B. Media preparation for Budikdamber
- Fill 60 liters of water into a bucket, let stand for approximately 1-2 days.
- Enter the catfish seeds, let stand 1-2 days.
- Arrange the glass kale on the edge of the bucket.
MAINTENANCE
It is not enough just to get to the stage of manufacture. Maintenance for Budikdamber is also necessary in order to achieve maximum results. Maintenance for Budikdamber is not difficult, but it requires consistency in its maintenance, namely by: The
- bucket is placed in a place that is exposed to maximum sunlight.
- Kale will be seen growing on the 3rd day.
- If there are lice on the leaves of kale, immediately remove the leaves or stems, because the kale will curl and die.
- Give food to fish according to the size they want. Can be given 2-3 times at a fixed time.
- If the fish's appetite decreases, the water smells bad (NH3, H2S), and the fish hang (head above, tail below), change the water or sipon (suctioning the dirt at the bottom of the bucket with a hose). Usually 10-14 days.
- Suction can be 50-80 percent of the total water or can be entirely if needed. Then replace it with clean water.
- The enlarged water spinach needs more water, so add water to the neck of the bucket.
HARVEST
When routine maintenance has been carried out, we can achieve maximum results at the harvest stage. The procedure for harvesting the products of Budikdamber is:
- The first harvest of kale is 14-21 days from planting.
- Leave the bottom of the kale shoots for regrowth.
- The 2nd and subsequent harvests are once every 10-14 days.
- Catfish harvest can be done in 2 months, if the seeds are good and the feed is good.
- Survival rates(survival)fish is 40-100 percent.
- Fish harvesting can be done by dredging or draining.
